Mablethorpe Marathon – The Course
The Route is an all road route with All Road Race Permit - 7681
The Marathon course is entirely on a bitumen and concrete surface in good condition.
The majority of the run is rural along country roads with the usual small ups and downs. The last 3 miles are along the promenade from Sutton-on-Sea to Mablethorpe with the sea on your right. Last years runners rated it as being 95% flat.
The race starts at the junction of the entrance to Sherwood Fields and Sherwood Road. There is a ‘Warm Up’ area close to the starting line and the other facilities such as Toilets, Changing Rooms, Left Luggage, Showers Public Address and Information Point are clearly signed and will be available on a map of the site before the event.
The first and last part of the course is along short sections of town roads.
From the Start Point it is straight forward along Sherwood Road then right into Wellington Road, forward St, Andrews Road, right turn Golf Road and then left onto Quebec Road and the run out. You will quickly pass the entrance to the Seal Sanctuary on your right followed shortly by the Haven Holiday Centre on your left. A left-hand bend in the road will take you out into the open countryside and a long straight run of approx 5 miles towards Withern Village and then straight on at a ‘T’ junction marshalled by Police (caution), forward through the village and up a gentle incline for about 3/10ths of a mile past Gayton Top, bear left and onward towards the village of Authorpe, (approx 10 miles). Shortly after leaving Authorpe There is a turn left towards Claythorpe and Aby. The route goes past Clayhorpe Mill (bird and animal Sanctuary) followed by right turn towards ABY (the Railway Tavern on the left!). Proceed forward along country roads and open countryside towards the village of Saleby. Just after the 16 mile point and before you get to Saleby there is a cross roads marshalled by Police (caution). Forward through Saleby bearing right and continuing along country roads through to Hagnaby (18 ½ miles) towards Rossa Farm (20 miles) then bearing left towards Thorpe and right towards Sutton-on-Sea (21 miles) forward about ¾ mile then left on the Alford Road to Sutton-on-Sea. Forward straight on at the round about, along the High Street and up to the Promenade (23 Miles). Then a straight run along the promenade by the sea to Mablethorpe leaving the Promenade at the ‘Star of the East’ dropping down and bearing right onto Quebec Road, carry on forward passing Sherwood Fields on the left and the end is nearly in sight (and is a reverse of the start). Turn left into Golf Road, and then left into St Andrews Road, forward into Wellington Road then left into Sherwood Road and the Finish.
