The Mablethorpe Marathon Foundation
The Mablethorpe Marathon Foundation was set up in 2005 as a not for profit organisation with a view of holding annual high profile Marathon & supporting Road Race events.
With a core group of just 5 committee members, and over 16 months of planning and organisation, the first Mablethorpe Marathon, Half marathon and 10K, took place on 10th September 2006. Initially the committee estimated a turn out of about 300 runners, but in the event 900 runners registered. Over 100 local Volunteers put their hearts and souls into ensuring an enjoyable experience for all the runners and visitors. This was Lincolnshire's first full marathon event, officially recognised by and affiliated with the U.K. Athletic Association, providing an electronically timed and measured course in all three events.
The Town of Mablethorpe & Sutton-on-Sea are proud to be host to runners from all over the UK and overseas, many whom have never visited the resort before. With the relatively flat course, personal best times are achievable in all three disciplines, providing runners qualification for some of the more major events.
Mablethorpe is traditionally a quiet place at this time of the year and there is a real buzz in the town and surrounding area at Marathon time. A real carnival atmosphere prevails and many runners decide to stay over for a few days or more, to enjoy the beaches and pleasures that can be found in the surrounding area. Businesses put on special offers and accommodation is available at competitive rates.
In general, this is a community based family orientated series of events that gives Running Clubs the opportunity to take part in all three disciplines as a group and at the same time provide an enjoyable time for their supporters and family at a friendly seaside resort. For the past two years we have laid on a free Pasta Party for runners and their immediate families. This has grown in popularity and gives runners the opportunity to socialise the evening before the events.

Over the years, Runners in The Mablethorpe Marathon Series of Events have raised many thousands of pounds for charities nationwide. In 2006, £5000:00 was raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution alone. The committee and Volunteers are pleased to provide you with this opportunity to raise even more money for the charity of your choice at this years "Festival of Running".
